RIDING SCHOOL INFO

We offer both Western Horsemanship and English equitation lessons at Winning Strides with a strong emphasis on safety. Our focus is on entry- level riders for recreational riding; although some of our students have gone on to enjoy various show specialties. We teach from the ground up including catching, haltering, grooming, tacking up, mounting and riding. Many of our students have ridden with us for years and have become accomplished riders.

Our current lesson fee for beginners is $30.00 per lesson and is due at each lesson unless other arrangements have been made with your instructor. Non-beginner riders may ride with one of our various other instructors and those fees vary.

Once your lesson is scheduled please assume the lesson is on unless we call you to cancel. We require 24 hour cancellation notice if you cannot attend your scheduled lesson. We have a full program and often can fit in those on a waiting list if you give us time to do so. We want to accommodate your busy life so if you need to change a lesson time please let us know. >> return to top

WESTERN AND ENGLISH RIDING CAMPS

We offer summer western horsemanship and English equitation camps during July and August. We look forward to sharing time with those individuals who have been with us before; as well as introducing new students to our camps.

The camps provide an excellent opportunity for children to share in some great horse fun. Camp weeks consist of formal riding instruction with a focus on the correct position, use of the natural aids, practical horse theory, roping or jumping (depending on the discipline) and the time to practice these new skills in an atmosphere that is informative and enjoyable for students at various skill levels.

Our camps offer a great opportunity to meet and learn from others. We encourage family to attend the Friday afternoon session from 2:00- 3:30 p.m. to view the wind-up of each camp. >> return to top

BARN CHORE PROGRAM

The Barn chore program is available for our students of all ages who would like to work some extra time around the barn. The program offers dual purpose of allowing these students the opportunity to build better equine skills and assist in keeping the barn area well maintained. Although not guaranteed, extra riding time may be incorporated.

Duties include: Cleaning the corrals and arena , emptying manure buckets, catching lesson horses, assisting with lessons, locking up diet horses, cleaning drinkers, filling extra troughs, monitoring and filling mineral, assisting Tom on farrier days, maintaining the brush box, cleaning and oiling tack, painting and maintaining jumps, sweeping and general goforing.

The Barn Chore Program was initiated in 2004. We have since incorporated an annual spring tack cleaning day to prepare all the gear for the riding season. For the current season we continue to have the program opened to include all ages, as some of our adult learners have enjoyed this additional aspect to their lessons.

Check the calendar page for upcoming news and dates. You may contact Laurie directly to sign up for the program. There will be a training day.

HORSE LEASE PROGRAM

The horse lease program is for students who have advanced in their horsemanship and skills enough to have independent riding time with a suitable horse. This program may also be useful for folks who are considering buying a horse.

Leasing allows potential owners to become acquainted with all the particulars involved. The opportunity allows them to “try out” a safe, familiar horse without the financial commitment of buying. Some of the school horses are available for lease. Support is available from us to ensure a safe, independent ride occurs without as much supervision as a lesson entails.

There are many variables when alone with a horse. Numerous things must be considered when embarking on independent riding. The safety of the rider and the horse is of utmost importance to all of us at Winning strides. Careful attention needs to be paid so that neither horses nor humans acquire undesirable habits.

We will spend time with potential lease holders to ensure their knowledge base is established enough for everyone to have a safe and enjoyable experience. If you are interested in leasing a horse please contact us for further information. >> return to top
